First Year Program

Troop 336 has an excellent first year program which begins every year at Camp Grady. Camp Grady is a weekend campout that is designed to teach to both parents and scouts. The adult program teaches new parents some of the things that they can expect from Boy Scouts, what do Boy Scouts do, what are the youth leadership positions and all that our troop and Boy Scouts has to offer. They also learn about the committee and scout master functions and how they are involved in troop activities. The scout program is designed to be supplemental to Summer Camp.  The youth leaders run the scout activities from the planning stages all the way through. Scouts will learn how to set up a tent, how to handle an axe, saw and knife (Totin' Chip), fire safety (Fireman's Chit) and how to build and cook on a fire. They learn how to meal plan and how to use a stove. They also learn flag etiquette and how to plan and perform a campfire skit and song. Scout requirement completion is all tracked to better help the adults facilitate requirement completion all the way through First Class. At Camp Grady, Second Class scouts also have the opportunity, as they do on any campout, to get their more advanced requirements completed. For more pictures from Camp Grady, click here.
