Diversity = Strength

It is of my opinion that one of the reasons we have such a strong country can be greatly contributed to the high amount of diversity which was the foundation that we have built upon. We can also continue to help our troop remain strong and grow by embracing and encouraging cultural, religious, ethnic and individual diversity.

I would like for us to share some of our favorite "Scouting Diversity Moments" out here on our troops internet site so we can all remember to keep the ideals of diversity in front of us. When you have one you would like to share, please put it in a e-mail and send it to me at t336sm@swbell.net or write it on a piece of paper and give it to me at a troop meeting and I will have them posted on this page. If you are a visitor to our site and have something on diversity that you would like to share please feel free to send me an e-mail as well.

Thank you,

Steven Grady

Troop 336

  • While having dinner as a guest with a Twin Arrows patrol the conversation revolved around the evenings meal planning. Their patrol had varying religious dietary requirements and on realizing this meal was not suited for all of them they got with the quartermaster and found out what alternate choices were available, developed a plan to get everything cooked with the limited resources of their patrols chuck box kitchen and everyone was able to have a wonderful and proper dinner.

SFG

  • Watching a patrol of scouts or scouters of diverse physical and leadership capabilities successfully work their way through the "Spider Web Challenge".

SFG

  • While at a camp in a different state with mostly troops from that state, some scouts in one of those other troops said some negative things to a scout from our troop because of his nationality. I witnessed the scouts from our troop band together to defend him as if they themselves were the recipient of these comments. Although they did not handle the situation in quite the right way, I was proud that they all took it personally as a comment not just against the individual, but the troop itself.
