Hello Troop 336,
Our troop helps out at the Cowtown Marathon every year. This event is a lot of
fun and it's a great way for scouts to earn 4 1/2 easy service hours and it is a
tremendous help to the volunteers that put the Marathon together and the city of
Fort Worth. The Troop 336 participation for this event has been wonderful over
the years! Anyone can sign up (scouts, scouters, committee members, parents,
siblings, friends). We are on site by 7:30 am on race day and are usually out by
12:30 pm. This year, the cowtown marathon expects over 20,000 runners from all
over the world. We would like to get at least 20 volunteers. I would like to get
an early head count so that we can request t-shirts (they are free). Anyone can
volunteer up to the day of the event, but you may not get a t-shirt. We have
done this event for more than 10 years and are very well known by the marathon
coordinators because of our participation. Please email me or talk to me at the
troop meeting if you would like to volunteer and tell me what shirt sizes you
need (adult sizes: S,M,L, XL, or XXL).
What do we do:
Scouts are required to do 1 service hour for Second Class and 6 service hours
for both Star and Life Scout requirements.
Last year, our troop manned the fluid station at mile 21 of the Marathon/ Ultra
Marathon race. I am waiting to hear from the race coordinator where our location
will be this year.
Scouts set up tables with water and Gatorade. We hand water/Gatorade to the
runners as they come by and cheer them on. We will be there from 7:00 am until
about 12:30 am on Sunday, February 26th.
There is no organized car pooling for this event like there is on campouts. But
if a scout wants to volunteer and does not have a ride, let me know and I'm sure
that we can find one for him. We will caravan from the church. I will send out
more detailed information when we get our official location assignment.
Again, if you would like to help out, please email me or talk to me at a troop
meeting. I need shirt sizes (Adult Small thru XXL) for anyone volunteering for
the event. You can sign up to volunteer all the way up to the day of the event,
but you may not get a t-shirt if you wait too long.
